Zachariah Receives Regulatory Science Innovation Award
The University of Maryland Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (M-CERSI) has awarded Department of Chemical and Biomolecular engineering professor Michael Zachariah (joint, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) one of its two 2013-2014 Innovation Awards. Zachariah's proposal was titled "Absolute Protein and Protein Aggregate Concentration Measurement."
M-CERSI's Innovation Awards promote new approaches to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) training or research that will advance the development of regulatory science, the techniques used to review, evaluate and approve drugs and medical devices.
Zachariah and his research group will use the funding to support their demonstration of electrospray differential mobility analysis (ES-DMA) as a tool to quantify protein aggregation, and as an absolute number concentration primary standard for protein with a projected uncertainty of less than five percent.
