The A. James Clark School of Engineering is home to a wide variety of departmental and shared labs and equipment, ranging from well-established to recently-renovated to completely new, for both research and teaching. Interdisciplinary research centers on campus administer major shared equipment facilities as well as organize activities promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration. These centers include the Maryland Nanocenter, the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), and the University of Maryland Energy Research Center (UMERC).

Even if you don't get out of the lab, classroom, or library much you can still have a great time on and around campus. The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center offers theater, jazz, orchestral, dance, and other performances throughout the year. At the Stamp Student Union, you can catch a movie at the Hoff Theater, eat out, visit the Stamp Gallery, take art and dance lessons, or hang out at the Terpzone, where you'll find bowling lanes, pool tables and an arcade. Visit Campus Recreation Services for swimming, fitness classes, outdoor excursions, and intramural sports. Shop for a computer. Join one of the dozens of special interest groups. Catch a Maryland Terrapins game‚ there are 27 sports to choose from! Let Engineering Co-op and Career Services help you find an internship or job, or attend one of the many career fairs held throughout the year.
