Where will you go?

Because chemical engineering has a wide range of applications, a chemical and biomolecular engineer can find interesting and diverse career opportunities in many fields, including:

Advanced Materials
Electronic materials, fibers and fabrics, films, chemical and biological sensors, and biomedical, biocompatible, and biomimetic materials.

Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering
Biopharmaceuticals, enzyme production, artificial organs, tissue engineering, metabolic engineering, genomics and proteomics, fermentation technology, and waste remediation.

Chemical Process Design and Construction
Process unit and plant design, upgrades and retrofits, plant-wide control, information technology, and project management.

Chemical Process Industries
Commodity and specialty chemical processing, including: Agricultural chemicals; industrial gases; paints, pigments, and inks; petrochemicals; plastics; composites; paper; soaps and cosmetics; synthetic fibers and textiles; and films.

Electronics
Integrated circuit manufacturing, semiconductor materials development, equipment design, fabrication lab water supply, and nanoscale technology.

Energy and Fuels
Petroleum refining, natural gas, fuel cells, battery design, alternative fuel sources, and clean power generation.

Environment, Safety, and Health
Waste minimization and remediation, transportation safety, air quality control, and plant security.

Food Processing
New food products, food additives, optimization of flavor and texture, packaging, and shelf life.

Research and Development
Other research and development opportunities exist at many public and private research institutes and at all government agencies.

In addition to all of the options, chemical and biomolecular engineers have traditionally ranked at or near the top of starting salaries among all of the engineering professions!
