Nicholas Guros Wins Poster Competition at Conference on Molecular Simulation
ChBE Ph.D. Candidate Nicholas Guros won an award for best poster at the Fourth Annual International Conference on Molecular Simulation (ICMS) in Shanghai, China, which took place October 22-26, 2016. Guros was awarded the "Sinopec" (a corporate sponsor of the conference) Best Poster Award.
The goal of Guros' research is to predict the behavior of ligand gated ion channels, which are a subset of transmembrane proteins. Guros and his team hope to predict the response of the 5-hydroxy-tryptamine-3 (5HT3) receptor to serotonin binding and electrical stimuli using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. This work is supported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in an effort to design a field effect transistor (FET), which is capable of detecting neural ligands, such as serotonin, in real time.
Guros is a GRA in the Laboratory of Molecular and Thermodynamic Modeling and is advised by ChBE Associate Professor Jeffery Klauda.
