ChBE Abundant in SCI Scholars
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is proud to announce that five of its students have been named Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) Scholars. The SCI Scholars Internship Program is run by the American Chemical Society, and is designed to match high achieving chemical engineers and current chemistry students with companies for summer internships, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in their future vocations.
The program/internship runs for roughly three months, and students receive a stipend of $6,000 - $10,000. Moreoever, a $1000 scholarship will be given to each student, and the students nominate a high-school teacher who will also receive $1000 to put towards classroom materials as a means of giving back and encouraging students to continue studying chemistry.
The University of Maryland SCI Scholars are:
Daniel Drost, a ChBE Junior, who will intern at American Air Liquide LLC; Newport, Delaware.
Partick Cable, a ChBE Sophomore, who will intern at Trinseo; Midland, Michigan.
Robert Allsopp, Nimit Patel and Tanner Pfendner, all ChBE Juniors, and they will intern at Chemtura Corporation in El Dorado, Arkansas.
Congratulations to all, and keep up the good work!
