Amy Karlsson, a faculty member in the UMD Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE), has recently been promoted to associate professor with tenure.  Karlsson, who received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 2009, is known for her research on protein engineering, biomolecular recognition and, most especially, fungal disease. In 2017, she was nominated for the UMD Invention of the Year Award in the life sciences category for her work on a drug target validation tool, specifically for C. albicans – a fungus that causes thrush and urinary track infections.
