Case Studies for Process Improvement in Pulp and Paper Kraft Mills

This seminar will address the kraft pulp and paper production process, highlighting some research developed to achieve process improvements. Some important statistics related to worldwide production and consumption of pulp and paper will be presented, as well as a brief description of the production process, in order to contextualize the case studies that will be discussed, as a manner to illustrate the great research potential existing in this important industrial productive sector. The case studies are: recycling of white water from the paper machine; physical-chemical characterization of black liquor samples in evaporators and reduction of white liquor consumption in the digester. All these studies were applied to actual industrial cases.
