Understanding Reaction Mechanisms and Kinetics for Na-ion Electrodes

Gabriel M. Veith
Senior Research Scientist
Oak Ridge National Laboratory

This presentation will discuss the synthesis and characterization of sodium ion electrodes. Na-ion batteries are alternative technologies to classic Li-ion batteries. While they have lower energy densities than typical lithium batteries the materials costs and availability make them well suited for large scale grid storage technologies. In the presentation particular emphasis will be placed on materials synthesis and its relationship to electrode properties and surface reactivity. I will also describe how the electrodes structure evolve with cycling and how this evolution affects sodium diffusion.
