Cecil College Scholarship Established in Alumnus' Memory

Maryland's Cecil College recently announced a new engineering scholarship in honor of a Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering alumnus, the late Thomas G. McWilliams Jr. (Ph.D. '64). McWilliams was a member of the Cecil College Foundation and one of the driving forces behind the school's decision to add engineering to its curriculum.

The Thomas G. McWilliams Jr. Scholarship, established with a gift from McWilliams' wife, Rosalinda, is to be preferably awarded to female students in an effort to encourage more women to become engineers. McWilliams was known as a supporter of the Society of Women Engineers, and an advocate for female engineering students and faculty.

Prior to his retirement, McWilliams served as the chair of the departments of chemical engineering and chemistry at the West Virginia Institute of Technology and the dean of engineering at Widener University in Chester, Pa.
