Recent trends and research themes for the NSF Engineering Directorate include Cognitive Engineering: Intersection of Engineering and Cognitive Sciences, Competitive Manufacturing and Service Enterprise, Complexity in Engineered and Natural Systems, Energy/Water and the Environment, and Systems Nanotechnology. Details of these topics, including present and proposed and budgets, will be discussed. Changes in review criteria, new division and program structures, workshops and examples of research supported will also be presented.
